Choose the product family by project inputs

Steel gratingStart here when the design calls for metal bar grating. Confirm bearing direction, clear span, load cases, bar section, spacing, surface and finish. FRP gratingStart here when corrosion exposure, electrical requirements or handling mass may influence the choice. Verify the exact resin, construction, surface and product data. Stair treadsDefine tread width and depth, bearing-bar direction, nosing, end plates, bolt pattern, support and opening limits. Trench coversDefine clear opening, support frame, pedestrian or vehicle loads, wheel footprint, drainage, lifting and restraint details. Product names describe different parts of the specification

Welded, stainless, galvanized and serrated are not four interchangeable material choices. Separate construction, base material, coating and surface when comparing a quotation. A description can combine several of these terms.

  • Construction: welded and press-locked identify different ways of joining the bars. Use the construction comparison for the detailed decision.
  • Base material: stainless steel identifies the metal, not the bar-joining method. The material grade is a separate quotation field.
  • Coating: hot-dip galvanized describes a zinc coating on iron or steel. Specify the coating process; batch hot-dip galvanizing is not the same as continuous sheet galvanizing.
  • Surface: serrated describes the walking-surface profile. It does not identify the material grade or establish a project-specific slip rating.
  • FRP construction: molded and pultruded are separate product families. Use the FRP comparison before requesting the exact panel data.

Terminology references: NAAMM MBG 531-24, American Galvanizers Association process scope and Strongwell's molded and pultruded product categories. Third-party performance claims and certifications are not GoGrating product evidence.

Minimum information for a comparable quotation

  1. Geometry: panel schedule, clear spans, support widths, bearing direction, openings and cut-outs.
  2. Loads: pedestrian, uniform, concentrated, vehicle or wheel loads plus footprint, impact and deflection criteria.
  3. Environment: chemicals and concentrations, temperature, wetting, chlorides, washdown, UV and fire requirements.
  4. Surface and access: slip requirement, opening limitation, drainage or containment, removable panels and lifting method.
  5. Evidence: governing standard and edition, drawings, material records, load data, coating or resin evidence, inspection and third-party requirements.
  6. Commercial: quantity, destination, packing, trade term and requested schedule.

Separate selection guidance from supplier proof

Standards and third-party technical resources can define what a buyer should ask for, but they do not prove that a quoted GoGrating configuration complies. For example, NAAMM publishes separate manuals for standard and heavy-duty metal bar grating, while ASTM A123/A123M addresses hot-dip zinc coating requirements for iron and steel products. The quotation must name the applicable document, edition, product scope and evidence.

For FRP, load tables and chemical-resistance guidance are product-specific. Resin name alone is not enough: require data for the exact construction, depth, mesh, surface, span, exposure and temperature.
