FRP Grating — Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic Flooring Solutions

Fiberglass reinforced plastic grating for walkways, platforms, and trench covers in corrosive environments — molded, pultruded, and covered types, fabricated to your project drawings and shipped factory-direct.

Quick AnswerFRP grating is a composite floor grating made from glass fiber reinforcement embedded in a thermoset resin matrix. It is lightweight, corrosion-proof, non-conductive, and non-sparking, making it a practical alternative to steel grating in chemical plants, wastewater facilities, marine structures, and offshore platforms. It is supplied as molded, pultruded, or covered panels, cut to order.

FRP Grating — Lightweight, Corrosion-Proof Composite Grating

FRP grating (fiberglass reinforced plastic grating) is the composite counterpart to our steel grating line. Where galvanized or stainless steel reaches its economic limit — chemical splash zones, chlorine atmospheres, splash decks, electroplating lines, coastal and offshore structures — fiberglass grating keeps working without rusting, without repainting, and without conducting electricity.

GoGrating supplies FRP grating as a custom-order product, not a stock SKU. Every order is produced to your specification: grating type, panel thickness, mesh pattern, resin system, color, and anti-slip surface. Panels are cut to your layout drawings before shipment, which reduces on-site fabrication for EPC contractors and gives importers a documented, repeatable product. Send your drawings through our Request a Quote page and our engineers will confirm a build specification.

What is FRP Grating?

FRP grating is made from two components: continuous glass fiber rovings that carry the structural load, and a thermoset resin matrix that binds the fibers, transfers stress between them, and provides chemical resistance. The resin choice — orthophthalic polyester, isophthalic polyester, or vinyl ester — largely determines which chemicals the grating can tolerate and at what service temperature.

Because the material contains no metal, FRP grating does not corrode, does not conduct electricity, will not spark when struck, and is transparent to radio frequencies. It typically weighs one-third to one-half as much as steel grating of comparable footprint, so panels can often be installed by hand without lifting equipment — a real cost factor on retrofit projects and elevated platform applications.

Types of FRP Grating

Molded FRP grating is produced in an open mold where glass rovings are laid in both directions and saturated with resin, curing into a one-piece square-mesh panel. The bidirectional construction gives equal strength both ways, high open area (typically 60–70%), and excellent impact tolerance. It is the standard choice for walkways, trench covers, and drain covers.

Pultruded FRP grating is assembled from continuously pultruded I-bar or T-bar profiles joined by cross rods. With a higher glass content aligned along the bar, it offers greater unidirectional stiffness and longer clear spans than molded grating — closer in behavior to welded steel grating.

Covered FRP grating adds a bonded solid plate top — smooth, checker, or grit-coated — over a molded or pultruded base. It is specified where spills must not pass through, where small wheels and trolleys cross, or where objects must not fall to levels below.

FRP Grating Specifications

Typical molded panels run 13–63 mm thick with mesh patterns such as 38×38 mm, 25×100 mm, and 19×19 mm mini-mesh; pultruded bar depths commonly range 25–63 mm. Standard sheet sizes are cut to your panel layout, and load behavior depends on grating type, thickness, span, and resin system. We do not publish generic load figures — contact us for engineered load and deflection tables matched to your span and duty.

Chemical resistance is resin-driven: orthophthalic resin suits general industrial and mildly corrosive service; isophthalic resin handles a broader range of acids, alkalis, and salt exposure; vinyl ester resin is specified for severe chemical service and higher temperatures. Fire-retardant formulations meeting ASTM E84 flame-spread classifications are available, and production runs under an ISO 9001 quality system with CE-marked options for European buyers.

How to Select FRP Grating

Start with the chemical environment, because it fixes the resin. List the chemicals present, their concentrations, and the service temperature, and we will recommend orthophthalic, isophthalic, or vinyl ester accordingly — upgrading resin only where the exposure justifies it keeps the specification honest and the project economical.

Then define the mechanical and surface requirements: span between supports and expected loading (which set type and thickness), required open area for drainage and light, and the anti-slip surface — molded concave top for general traffic, applied grit for oily or wet zones, or a covered plate top for spill containment. Standard colors are yellow, grey, and green, with custom colors on request.

If part of your project is better served by metal — fire-rated escape routes, heavy forklift traffic, very long spans — we can quote steel grating and FRP grating together from one factory order. Send drawings, a panel schedule, or even site photos via our Request a Quote form and our team will return a full technical proposal.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can FRP grating panels be cut to my project layout before shipping?

Yes. GoGrating is a custom-order manufacturer: panels are cut to your dimensions, with openings, notches, and matching hold-down clips supplied per your drawings. Send CAD files, PDFs, or a panel schedule with your quote request and we will return a cutting plan for approval before production.

Is there a minimum order quantity for FRP grating?

There is no fixed MOQ — orders are quoted by project. Small trial orders and mixed containers combining FRP grating with steel grating are common for first-time importers and distributors. Sea freight economics usually favor consolidating panels, clips, and stair treads into one shipment, which we can plan for you.

What is the typical lead time for a custom FRP grating order?

Lead time depends on grating type, resin system, color, and quantity. Standard molded panels in common meshes and colors ship fastest; pultruded profiles, vinyl ester formulations, and covered grating require additional production steps. We confirm a firm production and shipping schedule with every quotation rather than quoting a generic figure.

Which standards and documentation do you provide with FRP grating?

Production runs under ISO 9001, with fire-retardant grades classified per ASTM E84 and CE-marked options for European projects. Each order can include material certificates, resin specifications, dimensional inspection reports, and engineered load–deflection tables for your spans. Tell us your project's compliance requirements when you request a quote.
