Stainless Steel Grating — 304/316 for Harsh Environments

Custom-fabricated stainless steel grating in grades 304 and 316 for environments where galvanized steel cannot survive. Made to your project specifications in Anping, China and exported worldwide.

Quick AnswerStainless steel grating is welded or press-locked bar grating fabricated from grade 304 or 316 stainless steel instead of carbon steel. It resists corrosion without any coating, making it the standard choice for food processing, pharmaceutical, marine, and chemical plant flooring where hygiene, washdowns, or chloride exposure would destroy galvanized grating.

Stainless Steel Grating — 304 & 316 Grades

When a walkway, drain cover, or platform has to survive daily chemical washdowns, salt spray, or sanitary inspections, ordinary carbon steel grating — even hot-dip galvanized to ASTM A123 — eventually loses the fight. Stainless steel grating solves the problem at the material level: the corrosion resistance is in the alloy itself, not in a coating that can be scratched, worn, or dissolved.

GoGrating fabricates stainless grating to order in grades 304, 304L, 316, and 316L from our factory in Anping, Hebei — the wire-mesh and grating capital that produces the majority of China's output. Because every panel is custom-made, you specify the bearing bar size, pitch, panel dimensions, and finish to match your project drawings. We do not sell from stock, and we never guess at your requirements: send drawings or CAD files through our Request a Quote page and our engineers will confirm specifications before fabrication.

What is Stainless Steel Grating?

Structurally, stainless steel grating is identical to standard bar grating: load-bearing bars set on edge, joined by cross bars through forge welding or press-locking, manufactured to YB/T 4001.1 or ANSI/NAAMM MBG 531. The difference is the base metal. Grade 304 stainless (18% chromium, 8% nickel) handles food-plant washdowns, outdoor weathering, and most mild chemical exposure. Grade 316 stainless adds 2–3% molybdenum, which dramatically improves resistance to chlorides — the salt environments, marine atmospheres, and de-icing chemicals that cause pitting in 304.

A practical rule of thumb for buyers: choose 304 for hygiene and general corrosion resistance; choose 316 wherever chlorides, seawater, or aggressive process chemicals are present. Low-carbon variants (304L/316L) are preferred when heavy welding is involved, because they resist carbide precipitation at the weld zones. If your service environment is unusually aggressive — or budget pressure makes stainless hard to justify — ask us about FRP grating in vinyl ester resin as an alternative for non-structural, chemical-heavy areas.

Stainless Steel Specifications

Stainless grating is produced to the same dimensional series as carbon steel grating. Bearing bars range from 20×3 mm up to 100×9 mm; standard bar spacings follow the 19-space (approx. 30 mm centers) and 15-space (approx. 23.8 mm centers) series, with cross bar pitches typically at 50 mm or 100 mm. Panels are cut, banded, and notched to your layout drawings, with serrated bearing bars available where extra slip resistance is needed on wet or oily floors.

Surface finish options include mill finish, pickled and passivated (recommended — it removes weld discoloration and restores the full passive chromium-oxide layer), or polished for architectural and sanitary applications. Because load capacity depends on bar size, span, and loading condition, we do not publish generic load numbers; contact us for engineered load tables prepared to ANSI/NAAMM MBG 531 for your exact configuration. All production runs under our ISO 9001 quality system, with CE marking and material test certificates available on request.

Stainless Steel Applications

Food and beverage processing: trench drain covers, mezzanine floors, and platform grating that withstand caustic cleaning agents, steam, and daily high-pressure washdowns without flaking coatings that could contaminate product. Pharmaceutical and cleanroom facilities: 304/316L grating with pickled or polished finishes for areas governed by strict sanitary protocols.

Marine and offshore: 316 grating for dock walkways, shipboard platforms, desalination plants, and coastal infrastructure exposed to constant salt spray. Chemical and wastewater plants: grating around acid handling, chlorination, and scrubber areas where galvanized steel corrodes in months. Browse more end-use examples on our applications page, or send your project drawings for a fabrication review — EPC contractors and importers across the Middle East, Southeast Asia, Europe, Australia, and Latin America source stainless grating from us factory-direct. Request a quote with your specs, and we will respond with a confirmed fabrication drawing before anything is cut.

Frequently Asked Questions

Should I specify 304 or 316 stainless steel grating?

Use 304 for food processing, general washdown, and mild chemical environments. Specify 316 wherever chlorides are present — marine and coastal sites, desalination, de-icing salts, or aggressive process chemicals — because its molybdenum content resists pitting corrosion. For heavily welded assemblies, the low-carbon 304L/316L variants are recommended. If unsure, describe your environment in your quote request and our engineers will advise.

Can you fabricate stainless grating from our drawings or CAD files?

Yes — that is our standard workflow. Send DWG, PDF, or STEP files with your panel layout, cutouts, banding, and finish requirements through our Request a Quote page. We return confirmed fabrication drawings for your approval before production begins, so what arrives on site matches your design.

What is the minimum order quantity and typical lead time?

Because every order is custom-fabricated, MOQ is flexible — we regularly produce small project lots alongside container volumes for distributors. Lead time depends on grade availability, panel count, and fabrication complexity; we confirm a production schedule with every quotation rather than quoting a generic figure.

Do you provide load tables and material certificates for stainless grating?

Yes. Load capacity depends on bearing bar size, span, and loading condition, so we prepare engineered load tables to ANSI/NAAMM MBG 531 for your specific configuration on request. Every shipment can include mill test certificates verifying chemical composition and grade, plus ISO 9001 quality documentation and CE marking where required.
