Maintenance
Grating Inspection and Maintenance Center
Maintenance begins with the installed surface as a system: panels, supports, fasteners, openings, coatings and the environment all need inspection.
Remove or guard access when a defect may affect safe use; do not wait for a scheduled maintenance window.
Guide index
Build an inspection plan around risk
Inspection frequency should reflect exposure, traffic, vibration, chemical contact, previous defects and legal or owner requirements. OSHA requires regular inspection and correction of hazardous conditions but does not provide one universal interval for every grating installation.
- Routine visual walkdown
- Event-driven inspection after impact, overload, hot work or chemical spill
- Detailed inspection by a competent or qualified person where structural integrity may be affected
- Recorded close-out of repairs
Separate steel and FRP defects
Steel inspections focus on corrosion, coating damage, distortion, cracks, welds, support loss and restraint. FRP inspections also consider resin condition, exposed fibers, delamination, impact damage, cut-edge sealing and chemical compatibility. Use the product manufacturer's criteria for FRP repair or replacement.
