How do I select the right grating?
Choose by clear span and design load: pick a bearing-bar size whose tabulated capacity exceeds your load at that span, then set the spacing for the surface and drainage you need, and the material (steel or FRP) for the environment. Our load calculator and load tables do the maths.
Start with the clear span (distance between supports) and the design load in kPa or psf, including a safety factor. Use a load table to find the smallest bearing bar that meets the load at that span, then check deflection against a span/200 guide.
Next set the spacing — finer pitch for more bearing area and smaller objects, coarser to save weight — and choose serrated tops if slip resistance is needed. Finally pick the material and finish for the environment: galvanized steel for general industrial use, FRP for corrosive or electrical areas.
