How much weight can steel grating hold?
It depends entirely on bar size, spacing and span. A common 25×3 mm bar at 1 m span carries roughly 14 kPa (about 290 psf) uniform load, while a 65×5 mm bar at the same span carries over 150 kPa. Use a load table or calculator for your exact case.
Capacity rises sharply with bearing-bar depth and falls with span: doubling the span roughly quarters the safe uniform load. For point loads such as a forklift wheel, a separate concentrated-load check is needed because the bar sees a higher local moment.
Our computed load tables list uniform capacity in kPa and psf for twelve bar sizes across seven spans and three spacings, so you can match a bar to your design load and confirm deflection.
