Metal Bar Grating Standards: A Scope Map
Quoting 'NAAMM' alone is incomplete. NAAMM publishes different documents for regular grating, heavy-duty grating, engineering design, welding and standard practice.
Identify the document number, current project-accepted edition and the clause or deliverable that the purchase specification needs.
Current NAAMM publication families
NAAMM's Metal Bar Grating Division lists MBG 531-24 for metal bar grating technical data and recommended practices, MBG 532-24 for heavy-duty grating, MBG 534-24 for engineering design, MBG 533-21 for welding, and MBG 535-25 as the code of standard practice.
| Document | Use in specification review |
|---|---|
| MBG 531 | Regular steel, stainless steel and aluminum grating data and practices |
| MBG 532 | Heavy-duty steel and stainless grating |
| MBG 533 | Fabrication welding standard |
| MBG 534 | Engineering design procedures |
| MBG 535 | Standard-practice responsibilities and conventions |
How to cite a standard
State the document and edition accepted by the project. Define product designation, material, load basis, finish, fabrication, tolerances, inspection and required submittals. If a customer standard modifies NAAMM, list the departures so suppliers do not price different interpretations.
What the reference does not prove
Mention of a standard on a website does not prove product certification, third-party approval or project compliance. Those outcomes require order-specific evidence and review against the governing specification.
