When should I choose FRP over steel grating?

Quick answer

Choose FRP where corrosion, electrical safety or weight dominate — chemical plants, water treatment, marine, food and electrical areas. Choose steel for the highest structural loads, high temperatures and lowest upfront cost. See our FRP vs steel comparison.

FRP's total corrosion resistance, non-conductivity and low weight make it the long-life, low-maintenance choice anywhere chemicals, salt water or electricity are present. It also avoids the re-coating cycle that galvanized steel eventually needs in harsh service.

Steel still wins where loads are very heavy, temperatures are high, or budgets are tight and the environment is benign — for example a dry indoor mezzanine or a structural vehicle platform.
