What is banding on grating?

Quick answer

Banding is a flat bar welded across the cut ends of the bearing bars to close and strengthen a panel edge. It tidies the appearance, protects the cut ends, and keeps the bars aligned, especially on cut-outs and non-rectangular panels.

Whenever grating is cut — to length, around a pipe or into a shape — the free ends of the bearing bars are banded with a bar of similar depth so the panel keeps its rigidity and a clean, safe edge.

Trim banding is standard on fabricated and custom panels; we band all cut edges and openings before galvanizing so the finished panel is fully protected.
