Is steel grating slip resistant?

Quick answer

Plain grating is moderately slip resistant because the open surface drains liquids, and serrated grating adds toothed bar tops for extra grip in wet, oily or icy conditions. Stair treads add a serrated or abrasive nosing for safety.

The open grid means water, oil and debris fall through rather than forming a slick film, which already helps. For demanding areas, serrated tops bite into footwear and channel liquid, markedly improving traction.

On stairs, code often requires serrated treads with a contrasting abrasive nosing; we supply matching serrated grating and treads where slip safety is critical.
